Dice Game

The Dice Game is an engaging and interactive activity designed to foster open dialogue, generate insights, and encourage collective problem-solving among team members. Participants discuss critical topics related to their work environment, projects, and organisational culture. This game promotes collaboration and nurtures a sense of community and shared purpose within teams.

In the context of Agile methodologies, the Dice Game is an excellent tool for eliciting feedback and encouraging reflection on current practices. Participants engage with thought-provoking prompts, paving the way for innovative ideas and continuous improvement.

Game Structure

The Dice Game is played using a six-sided die, with each side representing a specific activity. When it's a player's turn, they roll the die and engage in the corresponding activity, answering questions or completing tasks based on the prompt. Here's a breakdown of the activities associated with each side of the die:

Die Side

Activity

Questions/Tasks

1

Describe It

- What does BDD mean to you? - Pretend you are the boss – what would you do? - Describe the feelings of a user's first time vs. the 100th time using the product. - What would the Definition of Done (DoD) for "The Company" be? - What metrics/measures would you use?

2

Compare It

- How is our way of working different from older waterfall methods? - How is a Premier League Football Club like an Agile company? - What can a retail outlet be compared to?

3

Associate It

- What does the UBet green make you think of? - What comes to mind when you think of UBet?

4

Analyse It

- What are the technologies used in the mobile iOS app? - Create a new persona based on the persona template. - Identify at least one of the 8 lean wastes along the pipeline.

5

Predict It

- Predict how Australia/The World would differ if everyone used our product. - Predict how AI could influence global communication and collaboration among remote teams. - How might the role of human creativity evolve as AI capabilities increase?

6

Rearrange It

- What else could our product be used for? - If you could prioritise work for the teams, what criteria would you use? - What are some ideas to make the workplace more fun? - How could you be better compensated (other than money) for going above and beyond?

Game Instructions

  1. Set Up: Gather your team in a comfortable environment. Ensure each participant has access to a die or a digital die-rolling tool.

  2. Roll the Die: The first participant rolls the die. Depending on which side lands face up, they will engage in the corresponding activity.

  3. Discuss: Encourage open dialogue and discussions around the prompts. Allow time for everyone to contribute their thoughts and insights.

  4. Rotate: After a round of discussion, pass the die to the next participant and repeat the process.

  5. Summarise: At the end of the game, summarise the insights gathered and discuss potential action items or ideas that emerged during the discussions.

The Dice Game is a dynamic tool for fostering a culture of open communication, innovation, and continuous improvement. By engaging in these activities, team members can collaboratively explore ideas, reflect on practices, and work towards building a more productive and cohesive workplace. The game's dynamic nature cultivates a sense of ownership and accountability, ultimately leading to a more agile and responsive organisation.

This innovative approach makes discussions more fun and engaging and enhances creativity and collective problem-solving, essential components of a thriving Agile environment.
