Account

The Account phase is the culminating step in the A6 coaching model, where accountability takes centre stage. This phase reinforces the importance of commitment and follow-through in achieving the goals set during previous stages. It recognises that without accountability, even the best intentions can fall by the wayside when life presents its inevitable challenges.

Activities

  1. Goal Review and Reflection: The coach and coachee revisit the established goals and the action plan. This review allows the coachee to reflect on their progress, assess what has worked well, and identify areas where they may have strayed from their intended path.

  2. Progress Tracking: Keeping a detailed record of the coachee’s progress helps to provide concrete evidence of accomplishments. This can be done through tracking tools, journaling, or progress reports, allowing the coach and coachee to visualise growth and areas for further improvement.

  3. Adjusting Goals and Strategies: As challenges arise, the coachee may need to adjust their goals or strategies. The coach facilitates discussions around these adjustments, ensuring they remain aligned with the coachee’s values and long-term aspirations while being realistic about changing circumstances.

  4. Accountability Check-Ins: Regular check-ins foster accountability. These sessions allow the coachee to share their experiences, struggles, and successes while the coach offers support and challenges them to stay committed to their goals.

  5. Celebrating Achievements: Recognising and celebrating milestones and achievements can motivate the coachee and reinforce positive behaviour. This recognition can come in many forms, from verbal praise to tangible rewards, encouraging the coachee to continue striving for success.

Coaching Questions

To foster accountability and ensure that the coachee remains focused and motivated, coaches may use targeted questions, including:

  1. "What progress have you made towards your goals since our last session?" This question encourages the coachee to reflect on their achievements and share their journey.

  2. "What challenges have you encountered, and how did you address them?" This question invites the coachee to explore their problem-solving skills and resilience and identify areas for growth.

  3. "What adjustments do you think are necessary to your action plan?" This prompts the coachee to think critically about their approach and make necessary changes to stay on track.

  4. "Who can you rely on for support during this next phase?" This question helps the coachee identify resources or accountability partners that can help them stay committed.

  5. "How do you feel about your progress? What emotions does this evoke?" This encourages emotional intelligence and self-awareness, helping the coachee connect their feelings to their actions.

  6. "What will you do to celebrate your successes, big or small?" This question reinforces the importance of recognition and helps create a positive feedback loop that motivates the coachee to keep pushing forward.

The Account phase ensures that the coaching journey results in tangible outcomes. By reviewing goals, tracking progress, and establishing accountability, the coach and coachee can cultivate a partnership that supports growth and challenges complacency. Through purposeful activities and probing questions, this phase empowers the coachee to take ownership of their development, enabling them to realise their best personal and professional selves.
